Clear answers to the most common questions about our legal services.
General
How much does the initial consultation cost?
For personal injury cases, the consultation is completely FREE and we work on a contingency fee basis: you pay nothing unless we win your case. For immigration, criminal defense, and family law, we offer an initial evaluation to analyze your situation and explain your options.
Do you speak Spanish at the office?
Yes. JLA offers assistance in English and Spanish. Our team helps coordinate communication and the appropriate consultation.
What are the office hours?
Our office is open Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Saturdays by appointment. For legal emergencies (arrests, serious accidents, immigration detention), call us and leave a message; we will get back to you as soon as possible.
Where are you located?
Our office is at 1250 Tech Dr, Suite 240, Norcross, GA 30093. We are conveniently located in Gwinnett County, with easy access from the entire Atlanta metropolitan area.
Do you serve clients outside Gwinnett?
Yes. Although our office is in Norcross, we represent clients throughout the state of Georgia. For immigration cases, we can represent you before any immigration court and USCIS nationwide.
Personal Injury
How much is my accident case worth?
The value depends on several factors: severity of injuries, medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and the other driver's liability. Use our Settlement Calculator for an initial estimate, or call for a free evaluation of your case.
How long do I have to file a lawsuit after an accident?
In Georgia, the statute of limitations for personal injury is 2 years from the date of the accident (O.C.G.A. § 9-3-33). For property damage it is 4 years. It is crucial to act quickly to preserve evidence.
What if I don't have health insurance?
We work with a network of doctors who accept treatment under medical liens. This means the doctor treats you now and collects from your case compensation later. You receive immediate treatment without paying out of pocket.
How much do you charge for an accident case?
We work on contingency fees: you pay nothing upfront and nothing if we don't win. Our fees are a percentage of the compensation we obtain for you.
Immigration
Can I fix my immigration status if I'm undocumented?
It depends on your specific situation. There are several possible paths: family petitions, U-Visa (for crime victims), VAWA (for domestic violence victims), asylum, cancellation of removal, and others. An initial evaluation allows us to assess your options.
How long does it take to get a green card?
Timelines vary enormously by category. Immediate relatives of citizens: 8-14 months. Other categories can take years. The Visa Bulletin is updated monthly with current dates. We verify your priority date during the consultation.
What do I do if ICE detains me?
You have rights even without documents: the right to remain silent, the right to an attorney, the right not to sign anything you don't understand. Call us immediately at (770) 609-9396.
Does a DUI affect my immigration case?
Yes, potentially. A DUI can affect citizenship applications, visa renewals, and can be considered in deportation proceedings. It is crucial to have an attorney who understands both criminal defense and immigration law.
Criminal Defense

In Georgia, certain misdemeanors may be eligible for record restriction (sealing) after a period of time. Dismissed charges or not guilty verdicts can generally be restricted. We evaluate your eligibility for free.
How much does a criminal defense attorney cost?
Fees vary based on the complexity of the case and the charges. We offer an initial evaluation and flexible payment plans. Ask about the scope of representation, fees and costs before hiring the firm. No result is guaranteed.
Family Law
How long does a divorce take in Georgia?
An uncontested divorce can be completed in 31 days (the minimum waiting period in Georgia). A contested divorce can take 6 months to over a year, depending on disputes over assets, custody, and support.
How is child custody decided?
In Georgia, the judge decides based on the 'best interest of the child.' Factors considered include: the bond with each parent, home stability, parental health, and the child's preference (at 14 it carries significant weight, at 11 they can express a preference).
Do I need a lawyer for an uncontested divorce?
Technically no, but it is highly recommended. Even in amicable divorces, there are decisions about property division, debts, and possibly custody that can affect you for years. An attorney protects your long-term interests.
